on the battlefield
troops surged ahead into harm
mortar shells bursting
orders to advance
fears of death casted to the winds
survival cherished
heroism a last thought
a chest of colorful medals
a "vee" formation
snow birds and geese go southeast
honking all the way
from a summit
the way down was difficult
a lesser climax
peak and valley traveled
new visas exposed and opened
on the garden path
long strides no longer easy
splayed toes kiss cracks
i wake up in the the morning
I know that the day will be long and hard
I know that before it is over
I wish that I had stayed in bed
However, this is the day the Lord has made
eye drop
one for each eye
pupil grow as big as a black jumbo olive
large dewy eyes
like a sign of first love
full of surprise and adoration
up at 0500 hours
the same aches and pains
start the day
stretch the large muscles
rinse out the mouth
the sleep from the eyes
pray that today will
be better than yesterday
have you ever seen pigs on ice?
join the morning rush hour
during a freezing rain
merge into a line of red brinking lights
watch the car in front fish tail
to a chorus of horns
pray that the spray of salt and sand
aids your brakes
without blinding your vision
hope that your confession
was sufficient!
curse your nine to five job
a Wagner opera
long lines during intermission
a splash of water
