The debate is about the cradle of civilization waxes and wanes. There are two major theories concerning whether or not Africa is the birthplace of moderns humans. They are the out-of-Africa advocates, who focus on fossils to gather information about the debate and the multi-regionalists who focus on DNA to reach a solution to the question. The multi-regionalists suggest that modern humans evolved contempartiuously in and out of Africa.
The most recent discovery of fossils fragments in Africa adds more evidence to the hypothesis that Africa is indeed the source modern humans without regard to their complexion. Now ain’t that a blast! The fossils some 160,000 years old are the oldest known remains of modern humans. It is thought that the fossils fill in a 200,000 year gap in the human fossil record and seem to confirm a major prediction of the out-of-Africa theory.
There is general agreement among bot groups that modern humans share most of same genetic legacy that traces back to Africa So what is the debate about? It is about POWER!
It is about domination. It is about having a scapegoat to blame when we fail. It is their fault. It is about having someone to blame who is easily recognized by physical features alone. It is about separation of humans into groups and setting up stereotypes. It is about the power to maintain the stereotypes lest the controlling power shifts to those out of power.
It is about the need to feel good because there is some one worse off than we are. While all this is interesting, the working definition of who is black in the good od USA is anyone having a trace of black blood!
If I understand this, the legacy no matter how traced leads one to Africa. That means that there is one drop of black drop in all of us. My, my ain’I we all black!
